American History & StudiesWelcome to our page dedicated to the American history and studies. By this we tend to mean North American history, the story of its native peoples and the waves of immigrants, settlers and others who have left their indelible mark on this long narrative.
To date, we offer some pertinent core lesson series on the origins of the American Revolution and Civil War (the "Question of Slavery") as well as on some early colonial history and the pivotal period of Reconstruction. We have in the works several new series including the Age of Discovery, the Civil War proper, and development of the Constitution. Not to far in the future, we are also planning an extended series on McCarthyism and the Cold War. We hope you stay tuned. As always, we look forward to comments and suggestions as to lessons and series you would like to see covered, and we will do our best to accommodate all requests. Below the lessons, you will find an expanding archives of resources for your consultation; they range from university specialized web pages to national organizations like the Library of Congress. Please take advantage and recommend new sites we might add to the list. |
