Modern LiteratureWelcome all. Modern literature is a field of immense complexity, both in content and theory. With the modern age, we see the introduction of new literary forms, most notably the 19th century novel. With it came a broad range of styles ranging from romanticism to realism to modernism to naturalism to symbolism to post-modernism and many more. To complicate matters still, the modern understanding o the natures of test, author and reader have undergone vastly destabilizing theories from both literary theory to linguistic. Even the traditional form of poetry has proven unsafe with the introduction of Free Verse, an art Robert Frost likened to playing tennis without a net.
The resources below are just a general beginning to the various subject matters and individuals that have contributed to the modern canon; many more specific resources vis-a-vis author and genre are soon to come. At the bottom of the page, we also have a growing list of sources that deal specifically with the challenges and conceptual innovations offered through literary and linguistic theory, so be sure to check them out as well. |
