Ancient Literature & Mythology
Ancient literature provides us with the oldest and arguably some of the best stories ever written down. Indeed, seemingly at the dawn of writing itself, people endeavored to tell stories and try and describe something of the human condition, an experience that could be shared through the struggles and triumphs of characters who reside somewhere between reality and lie. Beginning with the Epic of Gilgamesh and onward, the ancient Civilizations in the Near East. Greece and Rome have left us varied styles of literature from poetry to drama, epic to tragedy, works of contemplation and philosophy, social and cultural criticism.
Below we supply a growing number of resources for students, teachers and researchers delving into these subjects. Some are analysis and criticism while others offer full or partial text presentations of the original works. Our archive is always growing, and some of our own lesson series will arrive shortly. Please inform us of any other sites or resources which may be of use to you and our other visitors. |
